WHO ARE THE R2 BUILDERS OF OHIO?
The R2 Builders of Ohio is a club based in Ohio. We build life-size, fully functional Astromech droids from the movie series, Star Wars. We have a total of four members as of right now, that are each 14-16 years old. Evan is 15, and our club President. Sam is 16, and our club Vice-President. Tommy, who is 14, is a member, and Nathan, who is also 15, is a member as well. Our main source of income is through the public's donations to us. We have started many fundraising sites, such as Booster, where the public can buy a T-Shirt for $15 and we keep $5. We also have a GoFundMe page located here.
WHAT DO WE DO, AND WHAT CAN I GET OUT OF JOINING?
As a group, the R2 Builders of Ohio builds a life-size, fully functional R2D2. Some projects that come with this are learning how to use common woodworking machinery and techniques, developing and constructing complex electrical circuits from scratch, programming Arduino boards to be able to run R2, and so much more. If you join the R2 Builders of Ohio, and are under the age of 18, and live in the Akron, Ohio area, you can talk to one of our members about joining by calling 234-281-7451. Memberships are $30/year, and you will receive a members-only hat and special access to the Members Only page. If you are not in Ohio and still wish to join our Jedi training in building R2, you can become a long-distance member for $20/year. Long-distance members will receive access to the long-distance member's page, and will receive a T-Shirt.
All of our work is done by volunteer. None of the members get compensation for our time building R2, or traveling with him. All money donated to us after we are done with R2 (except for travel fees) will go towards cancer research and development.
